This will allow you to learn to pronounce Thai words with the correct tone, or "pitch" when reading. Use this in the "flashcard" mode. For the front of the card select "Consonant Category", "Symbol", and "Vowel Class". For the back, select "Tone". The front of the card will only have data in two of the fields at a time (depending on whether or not the tone is determined by a "symbol" or a "vowel class"). It's not as difficult as it sounds. Give it a try and you will understand.

| Thai for Beginners (Roman) - This DB is based on the Thai_For_Beginners file, based on the book by Benjawan Poomsan Becker, published by Paiboon Publishing, that currently exists on this site. To this database I have added the romanized (transliterated) Thai and the chapters in which the words/phrases are introduced. I did not use the IPA scheme Ms. Becker uses in the book due to difficulties in fonts, etc. I used a standard scheme that is used in many sources. The site I drew primarily from was http://www.thai2english.com with help from http://www.english-thai-dictionary.com. If you see any errors, please let me know at mailto:tcris52@gmail.com. |
