We love learning languages. In fact, many of our employees pursue language studies as a hobby.

We knew that with the "right" software, Palm Powered PDAs would be the perfect tool for language learning. We thought that the "right" software would be very easy to use, support a wide variety of languages, and have an easy way to create study material. Although we found several applications that claimed they could do what we wanted, all seemed lacking in one way or another. Since there was no software that did what we wanted, we decided to create our own.

Anki was originally developed as a internal company tool to help our employees with their language studies. When we distributed an early version of the software to a few friends, there seemed to be a very enthusiastic response. People kept asking for additional features. People sent us their databases and asked if we could distribute them to other Anki users.

We quickly realized that there was an opportunity to develop a high-quality language product for the Palm OS platform. After several additional months of development, we released our first commercial version of the software. What started as a small company tool grew into the successful software product now known as Anki.

One year ago, we stopped selling Anki. Since then we have received numerous requests for the software. So we decided to release it for free with version 1.70. Enjoy!
